Trips

We went to see what types of public art is already out there.

We went on local and national trips to see how public art works in real life. We wanted to understand how art connects to a place's history, how it’s made, and how it brings people together.

At Bradford, City of Culture, we saw a range of public art from being placed in grassy fields to the city’s centre, seeing how art can sit alongside heritage and play. At Kenilworth Castle we explored how a place’s history can shape new fun artwork. Joining a procession in Witley Court we had the chance to take part in the art and hear the artist talk about how the piece was inspired by Birmingham’s coal workers. In the Forest of Dean, we looked at how outdoor trails are built to last while blending into nature.

All of these trips were a reminder of how art can carry real stories and meaning to people and places. This is something we will be carrying forward on this Greenway Project.
